Well we had a good halloween. The kids had fun but it was very busy. We started off by going to our neighbors and then we went to our church where they had treat in a trunk which is when people bring their cars up and you just go from car to car to get candy. We did that and then we went to the Meadows carnival. There was food, music, games and moonwalks. The kids had a blast and it was perfect weather for it. Their halloween pictures this year aren't that great. The girls are into making faces now so this is what I got!

Tyler playing flag football
Tyler is now playing flag football. I would have never thought of him playing flag football but he does and he loves it. He just loves going to the practices and games. Unfortunately I have only seen one game due to Taylor's softball games but I'll be able to see his game this week. His team is the Red Raiders and he is having so much fun!!

Hurricane Ike Aftermath
As you all know we had a hurricane come through our little town. I am just now getting a chance to update on it. The kids handled the hurricane pretty well. Tyler thought it was cool, Shelby was a pretty scared beforehand. We turned the closet under the stairs into a little hidey hole for them (which she was so excited about). We put a mattress in there and Tyler and Shelby slept in there. Taylor slept on the floor in our room. Tyler and Taylor slept through the whole thing. Shelby got up once and came into our bed. When they got up around 6 am the worst part was mostly over.
We lost our cable at 9:30 pm and then the power at 12:30 am. We had our power back on by 8:30 so we were without power not even 24 hours. Our street got our power back on so quickly because we were on the same grid as the sewer plant. The other parts of our neighborhood didn't get theirs for several days.

Well now we finally have internet and phone after hurricane Ike. I realize the last post I did was for getting ready for hurricane Gustav. Yes, I'm a little behind so I will try to do some catching up
We didn't have much damage from the hurricane thankfully. We lost most of our fence and had a small leak in our kitchen which is just due to the wind blowing water up under the shingles where our porch cover and kitchen connects.
This is our back fence. A few years ago we had a tornado go through our back yard and the fence that fell down, Steve rebuilt. Well the hurricane took down the other part so now Steve has rebuilt our entire fence! In this picture you can see the gate that withstood the hurricane and it still worked!
This was on one side of our neighbors.
We are now all fenced in again! Steve was able to reuse most of the pickets and he went around the neighborhood and picked up some more that people were throwing away.
Luckily there wasn't a lot of house damage in our neighborhood. It was mainly just trees and fences. It was absolutely amazing though watching the wind bend these huge trees. It's hard to believe that the wind can blow that strong.
Life is now back to normal and I will be updating on other parts of our life that is not hurricane related!
Stay tuned!!!
And yes, we did eat the hurricane food that Steve bought! It did afterall come in handy!

Hurricane Gustav
PREPARING FOR HURRICANE GUSTAV
As you all know, we've got a hurricane headed in our direction. Yesterday on the way home from work, Steve stopped at Sam's. I guess he's assuming we're gonna get a direct hit. Although he bought a ton of stuff, it is stuff that we will eat. He said today his is still going to gas up both cars and fill our propane tanks. I'm trying not to make fun of him. Hopefully we won't have to use this stuff this week!

We now have a huge supply of mac n cheese, peanut butter, paper towels, toilet paper, ramen noodles, vienna sausage, cereal, bean, green beans, water and some other stuff. The two boxes under the empty water bottles contain 6 1 gallon jugs of water each. It's great that we have this, but my question is where in the world am I going to store this???

Taylor in middle school
TAYLOR'S FIRST DAY OF MIDDLE SCHOOL

Taylor heading out to the school bus - take one

Taylor heading out to the school bus - take two
These are the two pictures I got of Taylor before she headed out to school the first day of middle school. It's totally different this year: I can't walk her to her class or get pictures of her with her teacher: she has 7 of them!
She had a good week. She loves middle school, she just doesn't like riding the school bus. She says her bus driver is mean. We have now completed our first full week of school and mom is exhausted-I would think the kids would be too, but no such luck. I guess it's different when you have to spend all day with 4 year olds, come home do homework (I spend all evening helping Tyler) cook dinner, get ready for the next day and then turn around and do it all over again! I'm looking forward to this weekend!

Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony
KINDERGARTEN GRADUATION CEREMONY
Today at church we had a kindergarten graduation for the kids going into kindergarten. There were treats to eat and all the kids got a personalized bible. It was really neat!

Here are all the kids on stage reciting The Lords Prayer and saying the books of the bible. Notice how Shelby is center stage? Well the funny thing is when she first got on stage she was on the end but right before they started she moved (and probably pushed somebody out of the way) so she could be in the center. Imagine that!

Getting her bible! Ms. Julie is telling everybody about how at Camp Imani Shelby was with the 3rd graders and fit right in and had a blast. She did mention that of course her hair wasn't done pretty and she usually had dirt on her but she had so much fun!
It was a fun day! The bible is really cool. It is the whole bible but is written so kids can understand it. They say it's written at the 3rd grade level so Shelby will be able to grow with it.
First day of school
FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL!!
Wednesday August 20 was Tyler and Shelby's first day of school. I can't believe summer is over and now our crazy schedule of school, karate, softball, soccer and flag football will take over our lives!

Here is Tyler at his first day of 3rd grade at a new school. He has adjusted well and he really likes it.

Here he is at his desk. He has two teachers and I really like both of them. One of them has been there forever and one is new to the school but she has been teaching a while. I think we're going to have a very good year.

I can't believe I'm saying this but here is Shelby at her first day of Kindergarten! She is too little to be in Kindergarten!

Here's one of her teachers. She loves her teachers! Of course they both go to our church and her Taylor had both of them so they are wonderful teachers! One of her teachers told me today that she feels that if she had to be absent Shelby would be able to tell the substitute how to run the class. I hope that's good!
We are looking forward to a great year. Taylor starts middle school tomorrow!

Tragical Storm
Well we were supposed to have a hurricane come in this morning. It never moved from a tropical storm and all we have is a little rain. However, all Shelby heard yesterday was hurricane and she was terrified. She slept with mom and dad last night. Steve finally convinced her that it was just a tropical storm and we would just get some rain. She called it a tragical storm.
Steve went to get gas last night and he had to go to three gas stations because of the crowds. He said the store was selling out of water and batteries.
I could make fun of all those people, but it's good to be prepared for our tragical storm!

Here are Kayla and Caroline all ready for a day of play!
Caroline and her daddy-don't you love the glasses!

Here we are waiting to go to the pool-it must be something really good on TV. Uncle Andy, Caroline, Shelby, Kayla and Tyler.

Say cheese Caroline!

Bunion Surgery
Well as you all know, I had bunion surgery done on both feet on June 23. I went today and got my bandages taken off. Here are some before and after pictures.

This is what my feet looked like after the surgery and for the next 4 weeks.
Here is what they looked like in the doctor's office today after he took the bandages off.

Here they are at home after the doctor cleaned off some of the dried blood.

And these are my fancy shoes that I have been wearing and have to wear only one more week!

Meet Bo

As I'm sure you all know our beloved dog Buffy died a couple of weeks ago. After much researching on what kind of dog to get and looking for one, we found one. This is Bo and he is 4 months old and he is a Bichon Frise. We are very excited and happy about our new member of the family. I will post more pictures later.

Karate and bows

Here is Tyler all ready for Karate. He is not smiling because I took away the Nintendo DS so I could get this picture.

I finally got a smile, no eyes but I'll take what I can get!

Shelby loves to pose for a picture and she is wearing one of her new bows from Emily's friend, Robyn. She loves these bows and she's already requesting some more.
